"When our country faced tragedy six years ago on September 11th, 2001, thousands of Minnesotans answered the call of duty. Today we honor a handful of our brave men and women and thank them for their service to our country," said Eugene Sit, chairman of Minnesota Military Appreciation Fund (MMAF) and chief executive officer of Sit Investment Associates. MMAF is a non-profit, non-partisan organization calling on Minnesotans to say thanks to Minnesota military and their families who have served in combat overseas since September 2001. Since it launched in August of 2005, MMAF has raised over $6 million, making it the largest organization of its kind in the nation. To date, it has distributed more than 4,600 grants totaling approximately $3 million.
