U.S. Army Spc. Petina Pulemagafa, (right)740th Combat Support Company, 100th Battalion, Infantry Regiment, takes a photo with local Filipino children during Balikatan 2012 April 21 at Callos Elementary School in the Barangay of Callos in the Nueva Ecija province, Philippines. Soldiers from the 871st Engineer Company, 411th Engineer Battalion and Armed Forces of the Philippines 7th Infantry Division, are working with locals to repair the school's leaking roof. Exercise Balikatan is an annual training event aimed at improving combined planning, combat readiness, humanitarian assistance and interoperability between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. The word balikatan in Filipino means "shoulder-to-shoulder."
