Maj. Gen. John F. Nichols autographs a runner's shirt prior to the start of the Heroes 5K. Nichols attended the event in support of all the participants by speaking with numerous participants, firing blank rounds of a World War II era rifle to begin the race and presenting the medals for those who placed in the Run-Tex age categories.
