Republic of Korea Navy Cmdr. Bongchun Lee has a discussion with Malaysian army Lt. Col. Jamal Malik prior to the start of the Balikatan 2012 humanitarian assistance and disaster relief academic day, April 18, at Camp Aguinaldo, Philippines. Exercise Balikatan is an annual training event aimed at improving combined planning, combat readiness, humanitarian assistance and interoperability between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. forces. The term "Balikatan" is a Filipino word meaning "shoulder-to-shoulder."
