Rear Adm. Lee J. Metcalf, director of the Global Maritime Situational Awareness national office, addresses family members prior to swearing members of the 49th Cardinal Company into the Navy at the Soldier's Memorial in St. Lousi, Sept. 6. The 49th is a group of enlisted recruits from Navy Recruiting District St. Louis, so named because the St. Louis Cardinals have sponsored such groups annually since 1959. The enlistment ceremony is part of St. Louis Navy Week, which runs Aug. 28 to Sept. 6.
