First Lt. Matt Halligan, motor transportation officer with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (right), speaks with the leader of a fictional nomadic village during a mock humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operation here, March 10. Part of the MEU’s certification exercise and including elements of Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines and CLB 31, the HADR spanned three days. Following the completion of CERTEX, the 31st MEU will continue their deployment in the Asia-Pacific region. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and remains the nation’s force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
