The Regimental Combat Team 6, Marine of the day is Staff Sgt. Tomas Perez, 30, supply chief, Regimental Combat Team 6, Los Angeles. He has been married for nine years and has five children who will be 14, 10, 9, 6 and 1 this year while he is deployed. Perez has been in the Marine Corps for nearly 11 years. He said that he quit school and joined like a one of his cousins who was a Marine from 1990-1994. “I liked the uniform too,” Perez jokingly added with a smile. “Those Dress Blues always look good.” Perez met his wife while working at a popular fast-food restaurant before enlisting in the Marine Corps. “She was my boss before joining the Marines,” Perez said with pride. “She was the manager when I used to work at Carl’s Jr.” Perez is currently on his fourth deployment, this one being his third combat deployment. He has deployed twice to Iraq and returned home from the Republic of Georgia just weeks before he deployed with RCT-6. He says his favorite part of his job is spreading the motivation to his junior Marines. “The more motivated they are, the more you can get out of them,” Perez added as he looked around at the Marines in his office at the time. His hobbies include playing soccer, watching movies and spending time with his kids. “I enjoy spending time with my kids,” He added. “I’ll do whatever they want to do. I take them shopping once a month. I’ll take them to Toys ‘R Us or to GameStop or something like that. “My favorite part of being a father is learning,” Perez continued. “I have so many kids and they all have different personalities. They all have their differences, so I learn how to interact with each one differently. I just love spending time with them.” A big smile can be seen coming from Perez whenever he talks about his family. “Waking up with them around you is a good feeling. Even though you may get mad at them for waking you up early on a weekend,” Perez said while laughing. “I like getting up and cooking breakfast for them. I love cooking breakfast … but ONLY breakfast!” “I want to say hi to my wife and kids. I love you and miss you guys,” he said. “And I can’t wait to see you.”
