The Regimental Combat Team 6 Marine of the day is Cpl. Roger F. Jasso, 21, radio operator, from Diboll, Texas.

Jasso joined the Marine Corps in August 2008.

When Jasso decided to join the Marine Corps, he was asked if he wanted to enter the communications field. He says that he decided to do it because it would give him the ability to get a good job with any communication company.

“I wanted to join to better myself,” Jasso said. “I knew the Marine Corps would give me a good foundation for life.”

Jasso went to Diboll High School, and he left for boot camp soon after he graduated in 2008. He just recently reenlisted in the Marine Corps, but his permanent change of station was deferred in consideration of his deployment to Afghanistan. When he gets back to the U.S., he plans on getting orders to a station in California.

Although he reenlisted for an additional 4 years of service, he does not plan on staying in the Marine Corps for life.

“After I serve my 8 years I’m going to get out and go to college,” he said. “I want to study criminal justice at Texas A&M.”

A devoted family man, Jasso enjoys spending time with his kids. He is married and has three boys ages 3, 1 and 6 months.

Taking his kids to Myrtle Beach on the weekends is one of his favorite pastimes, says Jasso. He has plans on taking his wife to New York City when he returns from Afghanistan. Jasso met his wife in his home town while on leave.

“We were just friends in high school because she was a senior and I was a freshman,” he said. “She was beautiful. So when we started talking I thought, ‘the heck with it,’ and we got married, and the rest is history.”

We don’t have a television. That’s why I already have three kids,” Jasso joked.

Like many Marines, in his off time Jasso likes to stay active and play sports such as basketball and football. He also likes to play the video games Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty.

“I just want to mention to my wife and kids that I love them and I’m thinking of them,” Jasso said.

Food Fact: Jasso is a fajita connoisseur, and his favorite dish is beef fajitas with beans and rice.
