The U.S. Army Vessel Kennesaw Mountain, a landing craft utility, approaches the "beach" as part of the licensing process for prospective operators. The huge front ramp is lowered to enable cargo to be loaded directly into the vessel making it capable of utilization where piers are not available. The vessel is crewed by the 824th Transportation Company, a Reserve unit from Morehead City, N.C. The unit just started a yearlong deployment to support Operation Enduring Freedom.
