Tom Meinhardt, commander of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard, describes the tradition of military funeral honors and the folding of the national ensign following the funeral service of U.S. Navy World War II and merchant marine veteran Walter Dunn. Chief Master-at-Arms Brian Conigliaro and Yeoman 1st Class Vince Navarro, assigned to Navy Operational Support Center Detroit, honored Dunn. Sailors from NOSC Detroit participated in 975 funerals last year in support of "Honoring Those Who Served," the Department of Defense program for providing dignified military funeral honors to veterans who have defended our nation.
