Members of the American Red Cross Miss E. Marshall and Miss C. Baird look after members of the U.S. 42nd Division at Le Mans in early April 1919 as the division moved the French coast to embark for redeployment back to the United States. The 42nd Division, known as the Rainbow Division for its inclusion of various National Guard units from across the United States, served as an occupation force following the armistice that ended World War I.
