Soldiers from 47th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, negotiate a group of staggered sand dunes along an eight-mile course at McGregor Range, N.M., during a transition live-fire exercise Oct. 27. The soldiers were required to engage more than 20 targets along course moving at 25 mph. “There’s only so much you can do from a stationary position, this is more realistic,” said 1st Lt. John Mills, a Nokesville, Va., native and executive officer for B Company, 47th BSB. “It gives us a chance to get into the field and actually train as if we were in a situation like Afghanistan.” The transition live fire is part of the Network Integration Evaluation exercise that is testing a multitude of equipment and new technologies being considered by the Army for fielding.
