The 648th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade's Civil Military Operations Team conducted a simulated Key Leader Engagement Oct. 22 to incorporate a key task that the Brigade Commander will have to conduct during the upcoming deployment. 648th MEB Commander, Col. Andy Hall met with “Mohamed Kham” the mayor of a fictional Afghanistan town located outside of our forward operating base “FOB Hydra” to speak to him about how a possible closure of the FOB would affect his community. The scenario was planned by the CMO but included the support of the intelligence staff, Public Affairs, and the movement team who will play an integral part in interactions with local Afghan leadership during our mission. The movement team, lead by 1st Lt. Marc Pfrogner provided vehicle overwatch and a security detail for the commander and his team. “I’m pleased with how the team prepared for this mission,” said Hall. “From the movement team’s readiness to provide a security detail, to the intel team and CMO provided background information on Mohamed Kham, this has been a realistic representation of what will happen when we have this mission in-country.” The role of Mohamed Kham was played by retired Maj. Will Deem, who also provided a private private residence on Camp Blanding as a meeting place for the KLE scenario. Deem was presented with a Brigade coin by Hall who thanked him for his participation and hospitality during the exercise. “The KLE vignette was a great opportunity for the Brigade staff to practice comprehensive local leader interaction with the Civil Operations team, Public Affairs, Commander, Intel, and the movement team,” said Lt. Col. Michael Hulsey, the Brigade CMO officer. Pictured here, Sgt. Marcel Nalls and Capt. Baxter Howell receive a convoy brief moments before departing on the mission.
