(Right) Lance Cpl. Joseph Gonzales instructs Lance Cpl. Jeffrey Dane on plotting grids for Direct Fire Control procedures Sept. 9 on Fort Pickett. The Marines, mortarmen from Weapons Platoon, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment were conducting the drills during some down time. More than 500 Marines and Sailors will take part in the Deployment for Training exercise at Army Base Fort Pickett, Sept. 6-23. The battalion is scheduled to attach to and deploy with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit a few days after the training.
