Maj. Gen. Melvin G. Spiese, the commanding general for 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade, speaks to a group of Marines during a rehearsal of concept drill for Javelin Thrust 2011, at Bridgeport, Calif., July 23. Spiese said that this type of training keeps 1st MEB prepared to deploy forces quickly on short notice to any place in the world for a wide range of contingencies, from humanitarian aid and disaster relief to combat.
