    Maj. Gen. Thomas H. Katkus, adjutant general for the Alaska National Guard, receives his Australian airborne wings from Capt. Sam Thackray, of Sydney, with the Australian Defence Force, 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment. The U.S. Army 1st Battalion (Airborne), 501st Infantry Regiment, from Joint Base Elmendorf - Richardson, Alaska and ADF 3rd Battalion, RAR, jump masters exchanged their nation's airborne wings after a tactical parachute insertion as part of Talisman Sabre 2011. TS11 is an exercise designed to train U.S. and Australian forces to plan and conduct Combined Task Force operations to improve combat readiness and interoperability on a variety of missions from conventional conflict to peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance efforts.
