Since coming to America from Wexford, Ireland, 14 years ago, Petty Officer 2nd Class Anastatia M. Dobbs, a hospital corpsman, worked in an Irish pub, as a babysitter and as a nanny before deciding to enlist in the Navy stating, “When 9/11 went down, I decided to join.” A Navy corpsman for Black Sea Rotational Force 11 with almost 10 years of service, Dobbs’ naturalization ceremony marks the first time a U.S. service member has sworn-in to become an American citizen in Romania. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Vienna, Austria, made a visit to Mihail Kogalniceanu Land Forces base to conduct the ceremony, and has naturalized a total of over 53,400 members of the U.S. armed forces since September 2001, with over 7,400 being on foreign soil.
