Paul Gaudreau, a quality assurance representative from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' New England District, estimates loads of debris to be dumped from the F-5 tornado that tore through Joplin, Mo., May 22. Here, the New Bedford, Mass., native lifts a bucket into the tower with a ticket so he can accurately figure the amount of vegetative material (trees, shrubs and other plants) that is being hauled by contractors out of the tornado zone. He uses the ticket to help fairly determine the amount of money the government will pay the contractor for their hauling services. The Expedited Debris Removal mission is a massive operation, assigned to the Corps by FEMA.
