U.S. Marine Corps 1st Sgt. Michael P. Edwards pulls the lanyard on a 120 mm mortar system, causing it to fire June 21. Edwards, a Rome, N.Y., native, serves as the first sergeant for Battery K. The battery provides artillery and indirect fire for Battalion Landing Team 3/1, the ground-combat element of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The unit is training with the Expeditionary Fire Support System for an upcoming deployment later this year.
