Staff Sgt. Jesse Urena, a cannon crewmember with Battery K, 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment receives a Purple Heart medal from Brig. Gen. William L. Smith in a ceremony held on Contingency Operating Site Kalsu, May 30. Urena received his medal for injuries sustained when his convoy came under attack outside Baghdad.
