World War II veteran Edward Baytala waves to patriotic onlookers, who are applauding him and 107 of his fellow WWII veterans at the Coastal Carolina Regional Airport in New Bern, N.C., May 4. Escorting Baytala is Cpl. Pete O. Marceau, an ordnance systems technician for headquarters and headquarters squadron at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. Marceau said he felt privileged to be able to partake in the evening’s event, which honored the return of 108 WWII veterans who visited the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C., on behalf of the non-profit organization Honor Flight Southeastern North Carolina.
