Jakob Halstead, 5, plays in a backhoe under the close supervision of Cpl. Billy D. Shannon, a Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 heavy-equipment operator and volunteer for Camp Desert Kids. The event was an educational experience for the families of deployed Marines who learned about what life was like on a deployment. The event was hosted at the Cherry Tree House, April 9. Jakob’s father, Sgt. Nathan R. Halstead, is scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan this summer as an avionics technician with Marine Light Helicopter Attack Squadron 467.
