The forward-deployed amphibious dock landing ship USS Germantown and the Royal Thai navy medium landing ship HTMS Surin are underway in the Gulf of Thailand. Germantown is part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group and is participating in exercise Cobra Gold 2011, a U.S. and Thailand co-sponsored multi-nation exercise to improve interoperability between participating nations.
