Former U.S. Army Spc. Carlos Ortiz watches out the window of a Black Hawk helicopter as he returns to Iraq as part of Operation Proper Exit, Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010. Ortiz, who served with the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment "Wolfhounds," got a chance to see his old base and see the progress made in Iraq since he left after being wounded in 2004. Operation Proper Exit provides wounded servicemembers with trips back to the war zone to gain closure and leave the country on their own terms.
