As part of the Regional Command Southwest’s 235th Marine Corps birthday cake-cutting ceremony on Nov. 10, 2010, escorts brought the cake forward. The cake was cut, and served to the oldest and youngest Marines present, a tradition begun in 1952 by Gen. Lemuel C. Shepherd, the 20th commandant of the Marine Corps.
