Marines Honor Fallen Brother, Machine Gunner

Marines of Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, paid tribute to the life and service of a fallen brother during a memorial service at Combat Outpost Kherse, Marjah, Afghanistan, Sept. 5. Lance Cpl. Cody S. Childers was killed Aug. 20, while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Childers, a machine gunner with Golf Co., 2/6, was remembered for his drive to be the best he could be and excel in his job.

  • Cpl. Andy Melendez, a machine gunner assigned to 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 5, pays his final respects to a friend and fallen brother, Lance Cpl. Michael D. Glover. Glover was killed in action Aug. 16, while conducting combat operations in Fallujah, Iraq. His platoon commander, Capt. John J. McKenna IV, was also killed in action that day. The two Marines were assigned to the battalion's B Company and were honored at a memorial service held Aug. 26.
