Lance Cpl. Michael R. Douglass, 20, from Big Bear, Calif., receives a congratulatory handshake after being awarded the Purple Heart medal at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, Aug. 18. Douglass, a machine gunner with Security Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 15 (Forward), 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward), was wounded June 30 while on a vehicle recovery mission in Sangin District. He suffered a concussion when his vehicle detonated an improvised explosive device. Douglass deployed to Afghanistan in March in support of the International Security Assistance Force and is scheduled to redeploy to Camp Pendleton, Calif., in October.
