Navy Adm. James Winnefeld, North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command commander, salutes the side boys as he is piped out at the conclusion of the commands' change of command ceremony at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., May 19. Winnefeld comes to NORAD and U.S. NORTHCOM from an assignment as Director for Strategic Plans and Policy on the Joint Staff. He has served as commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, commander of a aircraft carrier strike group and commander of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.
