Patriot Academy graduate Pfc. Ryan Grieger from Delta, Colo., holds a white oak tree sapling while his battle buddy prepares the soil for planting at North Vernon Ciity Park, April 22. Grieger and fellow graduates planted 200 red and whilte oak saplings and gave 200 to school children in the community. Grieger said he saw a lot of similarity between the students and the tree saplings. "Our cadre have shaped and nurtured us so that we'll have strong branches and equally strong roots." The Patriot Academy is the Department of Defense's first accredited high school for dropouts who enlist, complete basic training and serve in the Army National Guard.
