A member of the Hard n’ Fast international riding club assists two Japanese first responders as they prepare Makoto Tanabe (lying on ground) for an emergency air evacuation July 3, 2016, in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Tanabe nearly severed his left foot when, during a leisure group ride with six fellow Hard and Fast members, his bike’s peg pinned his left ankle against a wall. Tanabe remains in stable condition thanks in large part to John D. Trent, a Defense Commissary Agency contractor and motorcycle enthusiast living in Japan. Trent applied first aid by using a bungee cord as a tourniquet, thereby stopping the bleeding and giving first responders precious time to evacuate his friend to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment.
