Sgt. Michael Ashburn, of Holden Beach, N.C., (foreground) receives a board from Sgt. Philip Dallas, of Jacksonville, N.C., outside the command post at Forward Operating Base Mahmudiyah, Nov. 1. Both Soldiers are infantrymen assigned to the 1st Battalion, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team. Ashburn and Dallas are building a new awning to provide shelter from the rain and sun outside the command post. The two Soldiers initiated the project and are using their carpentry skills to help improve the FOB. "It means a lot to us," said Dallas, a professional firefighter in his civilian job. "It leaves a footprint here for us and it shows we care about where we live and work."
