Spc. Rodney Thornton, a Houston native and gunner with Golf Forward Support Company, 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, has his Army Commendation Medal with V-device pinned to his chest, June 26, by Lt. Col. Terry Cook, the commander of 3rd Bn., 82nd FA Regt., on Forward Operating Base Warrior, Kirkuk, Iraq. Thornton received this award for his actions after his truck was struck by an RKG-3, a type of anti-tank hand grenade, while he was acting as the trucks gunner, May 23.
