Staff Sgt. Benedict Barroga, 161st Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels technician, conducts a fuel flash point test at 161st Air Refueling Wing, Phoenix, Jan. 29, 2015. This test finds the lowest temperature at which fuel from a fuel sample will "flash" when an ignition source is applied. A change in flash point may indicate the presence of potentially dangerous contaminants, such as excess water. If there is too much water, the fuel can freeze and the water crystals can cause engines to shut down, said Master Sgt. Romano Cedillos, 161st LRS fuels technician. The fuel is tested when the base initially received it, as well as twice a month, to ensure that the fuel received here meets the highest standards required by the U.S. Air Force.
