Obayashi Corporation employees bow their heads in ceremonial prayer during a groundbreaking ceremony on Camp Foster Jan. 15, 2015. The ceremony, called “jichinsai,” was conducted by a Shinto priest. During the ceremony, the priest asked permission from the earth spirit to build new structures. He also asked for the spirit to provide for the safety of workers as they demolished 45 housing units to make way for the construction of a new building to replace Zukeran Elementary School on Camp Foster, Japan.(U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt.
