Former Army Lt. Cary Jarvis cuts the cake following a ceremony where he received the French Legion of Honor medal, Jan. 11, 2015, in Norfolk, Va. Jarvis, who landed on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, with the Virginia National Guard’s 111th Field Artillery Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, received the highest decoration bestowed in France.
