Pfc. Joseph B. Avent, honor graduate of platoon 2096, awaits graduation at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., Dec. 12, 2014. Avent, a Monticello, Fla. native, was recruited by Sgt. Joshua D. Duis, a recruiter from Recruiting Sub Station Tallahassee, Recruiting Station Jacksonville. Recruit training signifies the transformation of a civilian to a United States Marine. Upon graduation, the newly-minted Marines will receive ten days of leave before attending the School of Infantry East, Camp Geiger, N.C.
