Lieutenant Colonel William C. Stophel cuts the first piece of cake during the 239th Marine Corps Birthday Ball at the Sheraton Hotel in Catania, Sicily, Nov. 14, 2014. Stophel is the commanding officer of SPMAGTF-Crisis Response-Africa and after cutting a slice Stophel presented it to Brig. Gen. Charles Chiarotti, the Guest of Honor for the ball and the Commanding General of 2nd Marine Logistics Group. This act is a tradition in the Marine Corps that dates back to 1952, when Commandant Gen.
