Members of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, stand in front of Garkalnes School, Latvia on Nov. 11, 2014 with member of the Latvian and Norwegian Armies and Laimnesis Brugis, principal of Garkalnes School. The soldiers joined their Latvian and Norwegian allies for a community outreach event at the school where they gave a presentation on U.S. culture and the country’s role in NATO. Children were also able to try on combat equipment from Latvia and the U.S. as well as climb in and out of military vehicles. These activities are part of the U.S. Army Europe-led Operation Atlantic Resolve land force assurance training exercise taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO.
