Flowers, banners and bagpipes honored all who have served in our nation's conflicts during the Atlanta History Center's Veterans Day commemorative program, Tuesday. Georgia National Guard Director of the Joint Staff Brig. Gen. John F. King served as keynote speaker for the event in the AHC's adjoining Veterans Park. A combat veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq, King reminded the crowd to meet and listen to the stories of all veterans, like 92-year-old retired Air Force Col. Paul Koshewa, who had been decorated in three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and the Gold Star mother of Marine Lance Cpl. Samuel Large, who lost his life in a helicopter crash off the eastern coast of Africa in 2006. Speaking with them and exploring the AHC's Oral History Project of audio recordings will open your eyes to "invaluable memories that live here and provide an extended reminder for future generations," King said. It is the third year the commemoration was held in the AHC Veterans Park garden. (Georgia Army National Guard photo by Staff Sgt. Tracy J. Smith | released)
