Fire for effect, a Baltic salute

Latvian Army colonel, Col. Mārtinš Liberts (right), commander of the Latvian Land Forces Infantry Brigade briefs dignitaries, VIPs and local media on the significance of the ceremonial firing of tank rounds at the Adazi Training Area, Latvia, Nov. 6, 2014. Soldiers from Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, in conjunction with the Latvian Land Forces, fired multiple rounds from their M1A2 Abrams Tanks to mark the first tank training in Latvia since 1994. The Soldiers are working to help train with the Latvian military to reinforce the U.S. commitment to NATO allies in the Baltic States. These activities are part of the U.S. Army Europe-led Operation Atlantic Resolve land force assurance training taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO.
