Sgt. Vincent J. Bartolomeo, an air defender assigned to 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, supported by the 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, holds his daughter Lucy, 8 months, shortly after meeting her for the first time Oct. 21 at Fort Campbell, Ky. During 2-44th ADA’s deployment, Bartolomeo, a native of Buffalo, N.Y., and other air defenders protected troops on the ground from rocket, artillery and mortar attacks by both intercepting incoming threats and providing sense and warn capabilities to coalition forces.
