U.S. Public Health Service officers prepare for the opening of the Monrovia Medical Unit opening, Nov. 4, 2014. Located about 30 miles outside Liberia’s capital, the MMU was built as a place where medical workers who become infected can be cared for. This area is located in the low-risk zone of the facility. Personnel who travel through the high-risk zone where patients are cared for must wear head-to-toe personal protective equipment.
