Ships from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Royal Canadian Navy and U.S. Navy sail in formation during a Task Group Exercise (TGEX) off the coast of Southern California. The exercise, led by U.S. 3rd Fleet, serves to train independently deploying units in air defense, anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare and maritime interdiction operations, while also building cooperative relationships. Joint, interagency and international relationships strengthen U.S. 3rd Fleet's ability to respond to crises and protect the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and it's allies and partners.
