Col. Kenneth M. Detreux, the commanding officer of 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, speaks on behalf of Lance Cpl. Matthew L. Jolley, a rifleman with Headquarters Company, 8th Marines, during a Purple Heart ceremony aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., Oct. 22, 2014. Jolley was injured during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Marines from Jolley’s unit joined with his friends and family to support him during the ceremony, where Detreux thanked him for his service and sacrifice on behalf of his fellow service members.
