Supporting the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and African partner nations, service members from U.S. Africa Command help facilitate the building of an Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) in Liberia as part of Operation United Assistance, a humanitarian relief operation in Ebola-stricken West African nations. According to the World Health Organization, since September, 2014, the spread of Ebola has now killed more than 3,000 people. USAID is the lead agency in charge of the 'whole-of-U.S. government' approach to the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. The USAID-led, (interagency) Ebola Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) oversees the U.S. Government's response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. (U.S. AFRICOM photo by Maj.
