Lt. Gen. Robert B. Neller presented Purple Heart medals to Lance Corporals William Simmons and Christopher Stidom in a ceremony at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth on Sept. 19, 2014. Both Marines are combat engineers and were with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion stationed in Camp Lejeune. Simmons is a Lincoln, Neb. native and Stidom hails from Huntington, W. Va.
