    III Marine Expeditionary Force   

    Marines prepare to embark on MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft to conduct an island seizure from Andersen Air Base, Guam, Sept. 20, 2014. The island seizure is one of many vignettes, or one-day exercises, that make up Valiant Shield 2014. Valiant Shield is a U.S.-only exercise integrating 18,000 U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army, and Marine Corps personnel, more than 200 aircraft and 19 surface ships, offering real-world joint operational experience to develop capabilities that provide a full range of options to defend U.S. interests and those of its allies and partners. The Marines are infantrymen with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, currently assigned to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force under the unit deployment program.
