    II Marine Expeditionary Force

An amphibious assault vehicle with 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion waits on the beach after driving in the St. Johns River during a training exercise aboard Marine Corps Support Facility Blount Island, Florida, Aug. 14. The battalion conducted a training splash, or entered the water with an amphibious assault vehicle into the open water, with eight AAV’s. The training helped the Marines refine their skills with this method of insertion and was part of the Maritime Prepositioning Force Exercise led by the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade and Expeditionary Strike Group Two, and is one part of BOLD ALLIGATOR 2014, the year’s largest amphibious exercise on the East Coast, which will serve as a capstone event for the Marines’ Expeditionary Force 21 concept.
