MARINE CORPS TRAINING AREA BELLOWS, Hawaii – Lance Cpl. Levi Johnson, an intelligence specialist with Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, and a 20-year-old native of Springdale, Ark., controls an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) drone via a handheld controller with a viewfinder. The UAS can fly up to a range of 10 kilometers and stay in the air for up to 90 minutes on one charge. Also called the Raven, the drone can take photos and relay information to help locate friendly and enemy forces on the ground. The Raven is part of the Marine Corps' Advanced Warfighting Experiment, a culmination of progressive experiments designed to test potential future technologies, solutions and concepts to future Marine Air Ground Task Force challenges led by the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab (MCWL).
