U.S. Army Lt. Gen. (ret.) Keith W. Dayton, director of the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, provides opening comments June 25 during The Partnership for Peace Consortium’s 16th annual conference in Bucharest, Romania. The theme of this year’s conference is “The Future of Euro-Atlantic Security: Education and Power.” Attendees from 25 countries are discussing the way forward for the consortium and participating in a number of seminars and lectures during the three-day conference. Panel topics for discussion include “Building Trust through Transparency: The Power of Soft Power,” “Capacity Building through Defense Education in Turbulent Times,” “Security Implications of New Technologies” and “Political Accountability and Security.” In addition to being one of the organizations that participates in the consortium, the Marshall Center also hosts the consortium operations’ staff, and the consortium's administrative center. Dayton serves as the chairman of the consortium’s governing structure, the Senior Advisory Committee. The annual conference, hosted by the Romanian Ministry of Defense, ends June 26.
